There is no question that entering the 2024 Major League Baseball season the Los Angeles Dodgers were the team to beat. They might still be, but even with high profile players that earn a lot of money, the competition has been fierce.

The Milwaukee Brewers beat them this Thursday 6-4 and just made the race in the National League even tighter. With this result, the San Diego Padres and the Arizona Diamondbacks are only two games behind them in the Western Division, but that is not all.

The Dodgers are a half game behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the race for the best record in the league, and just a game and a half over the Brewers, all this despite the problems Milwaukee has been going through as of late.

A star the team won't see anymore this year

The great start to the campaign that outfielder Christian Yelich was having has been stopped due to an injury, which has caused the Milwaukee Brewers and the player to opt to have a season ending back surgery.

He has been out since late July after being deactivated by sending him to the 10-day injured list. Yelich was batting .333 when in the duel against the Baltimore Orioles, he suffered back stiffness that forced the squad to take him out of the game, now confirming that he will be out of action for more time.

Christian Yelich has been a player who has struggled with back problems throughout his entire career, and now that same area caused him to leave his team without a high caliber player, however they've managed to stay very much in the National League pennant race.
