The Cowboys are currently finishing up details to begin minicamp sessions ahead of the start of the season. In this context, there is one player particularly interested in getting physically fit to recover from the poor form he showed last season, in relation to his previous seasons.

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson failed to replicate his Pro Bowl performance in the 2024 season, and his position in the latest Pro Football Focus (PFF) ranking clearly reflects this. After a promising 2023, the third-year player suffered a notable drop-off, finishing 17th among tight ends according to PFF.

What happened to Jake Ferguson?

There are several reasons for this decline. A knee injury suffered in Week 1 and a concussion limited his presence and continuity on the field. In addition, quarterback Dak Prescott's injury, which ruled him out for the rest of the year after Week 9, directly impacted the team's offensive performance.

"Ferguson looked set to break into the top 10, but the Cowboys' struggles and injuries caused a decline in his production and rating", according to PFF.

His receiving grade (56.6) and four fumbles generated concern about his future projection.

Jake Ferguson stats

The statistics reflect a difficult season for Ferguson, as he finished 20th in yards (494) and 12th in receptions (59), but failed to score a single touchdown in 14 games.

In a team that has shown little willingness to invest in tight ends, Ferguson now faces a crucial contract year to secure his stay in Dallas.

For the Wisconsin player, this ranking in 17th place may be the boost he needs to regain the level he showed in the 2023 season and once again become Prescott's main offensive backup.

Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys continue to straighten the path under the command of Brian Schottenheimer, who has managed to unite the locker room, convincing both rookies and veterans of his work philosophy, creating a brotherhood that Deuce Vaughn himself has publicly praised:

Every day you feel that energy when you walk into the building. All the coaches transmit it too. It motivates us and makes us want to come to work every day. It feels good to go out and train, to be with your teammates, to listen to music. We are really building a brotherhood
