Apple had its big day at the recent Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2025. At the event, the company unveiled iOS 26, which is full of new features and, above all, a design change that has provoked mixed reactions in the community. Social media is awash with comments, many of them negative towards a particular aspect of the revamped operating system.
The Washington Post has echoed the specific reason why Apple has earned so many detractors in recent hours. In a surprising twist and an attempt to generate amazement among its loyal customers, the tech giant has adopted a translucent and glass effect to its icons, lock screen and home screen.
One of the biggest problems with this, and one that is unanimous on social media, is the negative effect for those with vision problems and that it can greatly complicate reading and the intuitive nature of iOS. Its 'Liquid Glass' promises new features and, at the same time, issues to be resolved.
Apple praises iOS 17 and s attack it mercilessly
This design is currently planned for all devices: iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TV. "iOS 26 shines with the new design and significant improvements to the features s use every day, making the iPhone even more useful," says Craig Federighi, Apple's senior vice president of software engineering.
Their reaction, however, contrasts with posts on X about the new operating system design. "The ugliest thing Apple has ever done," defined one . Others, meanwhile, highlight those vision problems due to the lack of contrast on the screen, which prevents proper viewing of the text.
Apple has also chosen to change the nomenclature of iOS. Until now, the company was running version 18.5 of the system, but from now on it will have the current year in which it is launched, hence the name iOS 26.
